Our History.
What began as a small interior design practice in 2003 has grown into one of the region’s most respected design collectives.
2003
Joyce Buxton, NCIDQ, founded Buxton Interiors, later partnering with Brian Kubik, AIA, to form Buxton-Kubik Interior, Inc., expanding services in interior design, architecture, product sales, and construction.
2005
Jonathan Dodd, AIA, joined the firm, forming Buxton-Kubik-Dodd, Inc. His award-winning design experience elevated BKD’s reach in corporate, residential, retail, industrial, and institutional projects.
2011–2013
BKD acquired Creative Inc., then expanded again in 2013 by acquiring Pellham Phillips Architects and Engineers, adding in-house engineering and strengthening BKD’s reputation as a full-service leader in architecture and design.
2017
K Evans Interiors joined BKD, adding three senior designers and more than 65 years of combined experience, further enhancing BKD’s approach to architecture, engineering, and interior design.
2021
BKD Design Collective acquired a local hospitality design group, expanding expertise across an 85-hotel portfolio, including new builds and renovations for Hilton and Marriott full-service brands and convention spaces.
2022
Buxton Kubik Dodd Design Collective was recognized as the largest architecture and design firm in Southwest Missouri, reflecting the firm’s continued growth, influence, and reputation for excellence across the region.
2025
Buxton Kubik Dodd, Inc. took a major step by becoming an ESOP company. By transitioning to an Employee Stock Ownership Plan, Buxton Kubik Dodd, Inc. affirms its commitment to shared success, long-term stability, and empowering employees as true company owners.
